Synopsis

The performance „Tell Us About the Future” is inspired by the works of Stanisław Lem, particularly his novel Solaris. It follows a protagonist sent to an alien planet, where he must confront his memories, fears, and traumas alone. Facing an ocean that materializes his visions, he must decide to what extent he wishes to resist them or surrender to them. Lem’s brilliant metaphor for human existence becomes even more relevant today, in an era when technology attempts to manipulate human minds. A unique aspect of the performance is its reliance on movement and dance as the primary means of expression, adding deeper meaning to the story. This all unfolds against the backdrop of cinematic projections, which have long since become an integral part of our lives. Is this the future, or is it already the present? And does it really have to take place on a distant planet?

Zawirowania Dance Theatre

Zawirowania Dance Theatre is a unique space on the map of the Warsaw artistic scene, which since 2004 has combined various activities in the field of theatre, dance, music, performance and visual arts. The stage was founded by Elwira Piorun, a former soloist of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera and Włodzimierz Kaczkowski – director and playwright. From the beginning, Zawirowania has focused on discovering new forms of expression and exploring innovative artistic techniques, while at the same time being a space for international exchange, which, thanks to cooperation with choreographers and dancers from all over the world, including Italy, Spain, Israel, Slovakia, Poland, makes it a place for dialogue between cultures and dance styles. Over the two decades of its activity, the theatre has produced nearly 30 premieres in choreography by, among others, Elwira Piorun, Karolina Kroczak, Ido Tadmor, Daniel Abreu, Anna Piotrowska and many others.

An integral part of the theatre’s mission is education and the activities of the Zawirowania Dance Academy, which offers young dancers the opportunity to develop their talents through dance classes and workshops, the result of which are performances regularly performed on the theatre’s stage.

In 2005, the theatre established the Zawirowania International Dance Festival – since then it has hosted groups not only from Poland but also from all over the world. Since 2019, it has hosted the Warsaw Choreography Competition, which promotes young artists, enabling them to reach a wide audience.
